Pre and Post Care Instructions for Brow Tattoo

Welcome to our guide on pre and post-tattooing care! Whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned pro, following the right steps before and after your brow tattoo session is essential for the best results. In this post, I’ll walk you through everything you need to know to ensure your brows heal beautifully and stay stunning for as long as possible.

PRE CARE INSTRUCTIONS

1. Limit Blood Thinners

Please avoid caffeine, alcohol, aspirin 24 hours prior to your appointment.

Fish oil/oil-based capsules, VITAMIN E, blood thinning medication should be avoided 7 days prior to your appointment. These things will increase the chance of bleeding during your procedure. Bleeding pushes out the pigment and will affect the healed result of your treatment.

2. Skin Treatments/Serums

Please avoid any facials or botox 2-4 weeks prior to your appointment. Pause the use of retinol AHAs & BHAs on the forehead 2 weeks prior. Most skin treatments and active serums will increase the sensitivity of your skin which can affect the treatment.

3. Sun Exposure

Please avoid the direct sun exposure 2 weeks prior to your appointment. Don’t book your appointment straight after a sunny holiday. Sun exposure will stimulate melanin which will increase bleeding and affect healed results.

4. Exfoliate Brows

Please exfoliate your brows 48 hours before your appointment to remove and dry flaky skin. This is best done with some exfoliating gloves.

5. Wash Hair

I recommend washing your hair before you come for your appointment. You will not be able to get your brows wet for 10 days after your appointment.

AFTER-CARE INSTRUCTIONS

There will be a little tenderness and possible redness for the next 24 hours. The colour of your brows will appear dark and thicker while healing. It is also normal to feel light, patchy, and asymmetrical once the scabs fall off which is why you need the touch up appointment. This is all completely normal and to be expected during the healing process.

1. A thin layer of aftercare cream will be applied to your brows before leaving the appointment. You need to keep applying this to your brows 4 times a day for the next 7-10 days until all the scabs come off. Only apply a paper-thin layer.

2. No WORKOUTS/WEIGHTS/PILATES for 10 days. Exercise heats up the body and can migrate the pigment making strokes look thicker. It can also change the colour of the pigment and give you a patchy healed result.

3. Avoid WATER/STEAM/SAUNA for 10 days. Directly running water on or submerging the brows in water can impact the stages of healing and cause pigment loss.

4. No MAKEUP OR CREAMS to be applied to the brow area. These can be applied around the brows just not directly on the brows.

5. Some shedding/Peeling can happen around day 3-5. Do not pick this off just allow it to come offas you will pull out the colour implanted. Some bits may come off while applying your aftercare balm and this is fine. The colour will appear slightly cloudy underneath the shedding and will take 7-10 days to fully appear how they will remain.

MAINTAINING YOUR TATTOO

Avoid direct sun exposure, smoking, facials and creams containing retinol, glycolic or salicylic acid over or near the brow area.

90% of your healed results are determined by following your aftercare instructions. The true result won’t be revealed until you are healed from your 6 week touch up session. If you have oily skin your brows may not last as long as someone who has a normal skin type. Please be mindful that all skin types heal differently. If you are excessively oily or a heavy bleeder, then sometimes a third touch up may be required.

All touch up appointment cost are additional and not included in your original appointment price.

It is recommended to have a touch up appointment to maintain your brows every 12-24 months.
